PS3012 Perception And Labels Question Write a response citing a time you were wrongly perceived because you were associated with or labelled as a certain class or group of people   Answer Perception And Labels An individual may be labeled a drug user when seen in a neighborhood known to be dominated by drug dealers and users. Being seen around a drug user is enough reason for some people to label one a drug addict. This is however not the case in many instances as an individual may be misjudged. People always make assumptions concerning other people which in most cases are not the true description of an individual. A true character of a person lies deep within and a simple reaction to a situation or a behavior is not an accurate way to label a person. One’s true identity can only be sought for through asking an individual which sometimes might be okay to do so and also offending at certain situations (Catto). In every experience and situation, every individual brings their attitudes, expectations, and schemas. The current perceptionsnd labels are majorly influenced by prior experiences. This is also given by the present cognitive characteristic accessible for a certain individual. Different access to characteristics of a person will lead to people perceive a certain person differently. This is because of the different aspects of focus in other people which influence the thinking and thus giving one a label (Jhangiani, and Tarry). Labels may also be as a result of how careful different people process other people’s information. Individuals with strong a cognition will process one’s information thoroughly before they can make any assumptions. Others, on the other hand,re quick to make an assumption by use of a single trait expressed randomly which gives them a wrong impression about the individual (Jhangiani, and Tarry). One should therefore have a deeper understanding of a person’s information before he or she makes any perception or label.
